The air in Nimbasa City was warm. The familiarity of being in the town, despite the amount of change was a nostalgic experience and Touya was glad to be back in the Unova region. He was leaving the Pokémon center with his hands in his pockets. When he walked out of the door, he adjusted his hat to the light and examined his surroundings.
He made his way past the Gear Station and when the old gym was in his line of sight, he sighed. The region had changed so drastically in just a couple of years. He didn't notice that it was more interesting and attractive to tourists now, but he felt like a little part of his journey had been taken away. When he looked over again, he could swear he could see the green-haired male he had been looking for all over: N. "N?!" He exclaimed.
Touya instantly assumed he was hallucinating again, just as he had time and time again, but he couldn't help but feel the need just to make sure. He took off at that one speed he had never known he could reach and ran forward, almost falling twice but managing to hold his balance good enough to keep upright. When he reached, what he had assumed was N, he was beside the Ferris Wheel. Touya felt himself knock into someone and then fall to the floor, his hat falling down after he hit the ground and landing on his stomach.
N jumped back, almost falling over from the impact of the boy, who he almost didn't recognise at first. He almost thought it was Kyohei for a moment. He frowned a little bit. Touya? he thought to himself. The voice was familiar. He seemed surprised at first, thinking he was just hearing things when his name was shouted, but it all became apparent when he saw the boy, one of the people he'd been looking for, and a soft smile seem to spread on his face, crouching down to help the boy up, his head tilting at the sight of the boy again, almost looking overjoyed.
"Is that you, Touya?" he asked, holding out his hand. "Where have you been? I've been looking everywhere for you. I was scared."
He used the other hand to daintily pull Touya's hat off the ground, not letting the other worry about it. "I scoured Unova for you, but I couldn't find you."
Touya looked up, astonished. "N!" He confirmed his own vision. "It's actually you!" Touya slung his arms around the other male, not taking note of his personal space and grinned widely. He somehow found himself shocked that N had been searching for him across Unova. He now understood how he had failed to find N. They had been searching for each other and therefore were both on the move.
"I was looking for you too." He smiled with complete sincerity, moving back slightly, but still holding onto the embrace he shared with the other. Touya had missed N and had hoped to find him, which had taken two years of free time away from him. Somehow, Touya didn't really think about that fact and ignored it. He hadn't even noticed his hat was no longer placed comfortably on his head.
N chuckled at first, replying to him with a humourous smile on his face.
"Who did you think I was? A bunch of lettuce?" he asked with a grin, not at all expecting the hug Touya had just given him. It caused him to tense, to freeze up. He didn't understand it at all. He was so confused. He knew this was a sign of affection, for most people, but what had he done that warranted one? Was it just his speech? His smile turned to that of confusion, looking at Touya with probably the strangest look he could muster, especially since the other male was hugging so tightly. What had happened?
"Looking for me? Touya, why would you go to great lengths to look for me? I told you I'd be back, didn't I?" he asked, becoming less tense when the hug loosened up a bit. "Was I not supposed to take that long?"
The older of the two calmly, although he was internally freaking out from being hugged and trying to figure out why he was being hugged, placed the other's hat back on his head. "And you forgot this. I picked it up for you, don't worry."
"Well..." The young, brunette boy started with an expression that seemed to show that he was looking for the completely perfect way to word his sentences, "Two whole years..." He thought aloud, before continuing with his statement the way he had intended. "Two years is a really long time, N..." He looked to the ground. "Or at least a long time to go without seein' someone..." That didn't quite sound right when it came out of Touya's mouth and he pulled a confused expression, "Or something." he said in hopes to redeem the poorly constructed statement.
When the hat returned safely onto Touya's head, he beamed a satisfied smile in N's direction, then used one of his hands to move the hair that had now found its way in front of his eyes, thanks to the hat. He then pulled the front of the cap down a little bit, only to push it back up again straight after doing so.
N's smile faltered at Touya, as if looking a bit apologetic. He knew it wasn't right of him to leave for so long, not saying when he'd be back, only parting with 'we'll see each other again.' It was rude of him. It was mean to leave one of the only friends he had made after all of the trouble he caused, warranting them to search for him. The realisation of it had dawned upon him. It wasn't the best way to leave somebody.
"I'm sorry," he murmured, averting his gaze to the side. "I should have told you when I would be back, but, to be honest..." He winced, not really expecting anything good to come out of it, but he knew Touya. Touya was understanding, kind. He wasn't going to be called a freak or anything by him. He wouldn't be insulted. He knew that, but he still couldn't help but cringe.
"I didn't actually know how long I would be gone myself." He awkwardly returned the hug, finally. It was one of those awkward 'I tried' hugs, but it was still a hug nonetheless. It was rude to keep a hug one-sided, he thought.
The sudden apologetic tone N used surprised Touya. "No! Don't worry." His smile grew wider. "I wasn't trying to scold you." He tried to reassure N that he wasn't mad or upset, he'd just missed his friend a lot. Touya was like that. Sometimes he worried if he was being too affection towards friend of he was being irritating and clingy towards people who really didn't appreciate it.
"How've you been?" He moved his gaze back to his friend, smiling brightly and then pulling his hat back into place a second time until it felt completely comfortable on his head. He then shook his head slightly to move the hair from his face once again and then moved the left over bang hair out of his eyes so that he could see properly again.
N seemed to give his old friend a smile. "Well, if you say so..." He averted his gaze a little bit, breaking his eye contact that he found so difficult to keep with Touya. He felt like he lied to the boy or something or another. He felt bad, even if Touya said it was okay.
"Either way, I've been great. I feel a lot better after I took the time to clear my head. I missed Unova though. I visited my old home in Lostlorn Forest. I bet you didn't know I lived there, huh?" he teased lightly. He looked wistfully at the Ferris Wheel. "And I missed riding this for the few times I did ride it." He shook his head. "That's enough getting nostalgic, though. I'd hate to be bothersome. How have you been?"
Touya's hat still didn't look quite right on him, though, so this warranted the slightly older boy to kneel down a little bit in order to fix it. "That looks better, I think," he murmured after adjusting it.
"You've done nothing wrong in my eyes anymore, N! So really, no worries at all!" Touya smiled with as much sincerity as he could pull into his expression. Every so often, Touya's eyes would move upward, staring at the front of his cap. He would make a bunch of irritated/dissapointed expressions, fiddle with it and then simply give up. Lather, rinse, repeat.
He suddenly looked surprised, "Lostorn Forest?! Really?!" He looked somewhat worried, but mainly surprised. He wasn't sure how long N had supposedly lived in the forest, but he wasn't so sure how sensitive the subject would be. He then followed N's change in gaze to the ferris wheel and then back to the male again. "I've been fine." He smiled wider. "We can ride it if you like!" He pointed over to the ferris wheel.
"And, thanks." He smiled. "It feels better now too."
